The Botanical Garden in Poznań was founded in the years after World War I as an educational facility. The University of Poznań was in charge of the educational values of the garden. During the German occupation after World War II the Botanical Garden was incorporated into the Reich University in Poznań although eventually it was incorporated back into the University of Poznań (later renamed to Adam Mickiewicz University) and became a part of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
In the early years of garden's existence the Botanical Garden had only 2,5 ha. Currently it covers the area of almost 22 ha and the collection includes 7000 plant species from almost all climate zones on Earth.
No it's one of the most popular parks in Poznań but also a place of cultural, artistic and educational events and meetings. The entrance to the park is free although its gate are closed for the night. Main entrance is on Dąbrowskiego Street 165.
